Jeff and I just got back from Montana hunting with Shane Erickson owner of Gods Country Outfitters. Shane hunts all private ground and has a comfortable wall tent camp, The first day we saw some good bulls and heard more we couldn't see. The second day started off slow then a little after lunch we spotted a good 6x6 herd bull with some cows. There was a good 5x5 bull following the herd and Shane thought if we got close enough we could call him in. We snuck in to about a 100 yards and got set up. Jeff and i set up about 50 yards apart and Shane set up about 50 yards behind us. Shane started cow calling and it didn't take long and the 5x5 bugled.
After a couple minutes he bugled again and you could tell he was much closer. I spotted him through the trees and he was headed straight to me. The next thing i knew he was 10 yards facing me. His head went behind a tree and that's when i drew. I settled the pin on his chest and released and the Muzzy tipped Full Metal Jacket arrow buried up to the vanes right on target. The bull turned and ran about 60 yards and went down in sight. I couldn't believe it, it all happened so fast. The rest of the week we saw lots of bulls and had some close calls but Jeff could never close the deal. So if your interested in hunting Montana Elk give Shane Erickson a call!!!!!
