First Whitetail of 07 is a Hometown Buck

After Jeff and I returned home from Montana we decided to give the Whitetail a try here on my families ranch in Hamilton TX. The first afternoon back we headed out to the ranch. The temperature was in the lower 90's so we weren't expecting much. We got settled in our stands and with the temp so hot there wasn't any deer movement until about 30 minutes before dark. We had a couple does and fawns come in first. Then we had a little 6 point come in. After the 6 point came in we thought we could here a buck rubbing a tree from the direction the 6 point came from. The rubbing stopped and after a couple minutes you could here foot steps coming our way. I knew it was going to be a buck so i told Jeff to be ready. What stepped out I wasn't ready for.

The biggest deer i had ever seen here on the family ranch had just steeped out at 15 yards. I started shaking uncontrollable!!!! It took the buck a couple minutes but he finally turned broadside and presented me a shot. I settled the pin on him low right behind the shoulder. I released another Easton Full Metal jacket Arrow tipped with a Muzzy MX-3. The shot was high and i spinned him so he went down on the spot. I couldn't believe it!!!!! With the temperature in the 90's and i had just taking the biggest buck i have ever taking on the family ranch. What a way to start off the 07 season. This hunt shows you you've got to be in the stand every chance you get!!!!
