Darrell and I just rolled back in from our Oklahoma hunt and we both are
smiling. Last week was an amazing week to be in the woods.
The day we got there a northern hit and the cold weather really seem to
bust things loose. In camp with us was Scott Shultz of ScentBlocker,
Andrea Brown of ScentBlocker, Chris Cain of Ol'Man Treestands, and Gary
Fleishauer from Wisconsin.
Everyday we all had good stories to tell, but on day two I had a sad story
to tell...I missed a monster 6 point (who is really an 8 point, but his
G3s are only about 1" long). This buck was at least 6 years old and had a
monster body. I was doing some figuring and he had to be pushing 140" as
a 6 point. I was sick!
To make a long story short...Andrea was the first to put her arrow where
it was suppose go an knocked down an 160" 11 point (her best buck ever).
The next successful hunter was Chris with a 135" plus 8 point, and the
last morning Scott ran an arrow thru a monster 180" buck that had a 25
1/8" inside spread...amazing deer! Darrell and I both tagged out the last
day with a couple of freak bucks (one good side and one messed up side).
I have never been on a trip where rattling worked so well. It was a lot
of fun and a big "Thank You" to Scott for the invite.
Oh yea...before Darrell tells you, I did miss two other bucks that were
140" plus...I had the missing FUNK! After taking my non-typical I feel
like I am back in the saddle! (I hope).
Next trip is the Newell Ranch in Albany, TX.
