Dec. 4th, 2009 - Hunting with Rattlin Randy @ the Newell Ranch

Last summer we got a chance to go up and meet the famous Rattlin Randy who is the Ranch Manager @ the Newell Ranch which is located near Albany, TX. Over the last several years Darrell and I both have seen different shows that were filmed at the Newell Ranch, including Ted Nugent, Hank Parker and sons, and Michael Waddell. So when Randy invited us on a hunt we were some kind of fired up!

It was our first trip after Thanksgiving and it was nice just having to drive a couple hours down the road to go on the hunt. We were lucky enough to spend about five days with Randy, Melinda, Jason, and Ron and it was a very eventful week.

Randy was the first to fling an arrow when he took out his frustration of a close encounter with a monster 9 point (that he never got a shot at) on a management spike. Morning three I was set up in a custom made Dallas Cowboy helmet ground blind when a monster 9 point with a 4" drop came to check out a few does that were feeding in front of us. A 20 yard broadside shot gave my Muzzy Broadhead, VForce Arrow, and DZ-30 Limbsaver bow a chance to do what it does best!

Darrell had some amazing encounters with some 150" plus bucks, but it never worked out. On the last morning he took a nice management 8 point to finish off a great trip.
