I have had my first experience with a buck decoy and I am sold! I went over to Illinois the week before the first shotgun season to do some bowhunting on some ground that Jim Call (www.callofthewildoutfitter.homestead.com) lined up. After fighting some warm weather we had a little front move in that really got the deer moving. We got in our Ol'Man Treestands (www.olmanoutdoors.com) around 2:30 pm that afternoon and before I even had my Mathews (www.MathewsInc.com) pulled up we spotted a nice 8 point with a doe about a 100 yards out. I had a buck decoy set up about 15 yards out into a wheat field and the buck and doe were both staring in our direction. They then started coming right to the decoy. I could not do anything but watch and hope they will hang around long enough for me to get my Mathews pulled up. They got within about 50 yards and the nice buck started chasing the doe again. I was able to hurry my Mathews up the tree and get everything ready in case they came back. Not long a doe jumped into our wheat field from the same timber the buck and doe had disappeared. Ten minutes later the same buck also jumped into the field, but this time I was ready. The pair was about 125 yards out and after I snort-wheezed a few times the buck thought he would come over and teach my buck decoy a lesson. After the buck displayed some dominance he quartered away from me at 20 yards and I sent a Muzzy (www.Muzzy.com) through both lungs. Man was I pumped!! I am a believer in decoys. There is no way I would have got a shot at this buck without one. Thank you Jim Call (www.callofthewildoutfitter.homestead.com)
for another fantastic hunt.
