Darrell and I were invited to go up to Nebraska with Nate Swanson and Hunt Nebraska (www.huntnebraskainc.com) on a pheasant hunt. To
be honest with you this was my first pheasant hunt and I was not sure of what to expect. I first met Nate and his wife Courtney @ SCI in Reno.
I recognized right away that they were down to earth people and there main goal was to make sure their client had a first class hunting
experience and a comfortable stay. We arrived on the first afternoon and met Nate, John (head cook), and the gang. The game plan was to
get settled in and relax that afternoon and be ready to go the next morning. One thing I figured out about pheasant hunting, that I liked, was
you do not have to wake up 4:30 am and be out if the field before the sun comes up. We were able to get up and eat a good breakfast
(thanks Shalean) and head out around 7:30am. Basically we had two outstanding days of bird hunting. We took pheasants, chuckers, and a
few bobwhite quail and this is not a "KICK A BIRD" hunt.
The guys at Hunt Nebraska put their birds out in the spring of the year before,
which makes them a joy to hunt. They also put in a lot of work in food plots for the birds to ensure they have the food and habitat they need to
survive. The dogs were outstanding and Nate did a fantastic job of handling dogs and alternating them to keep fresh noses and
legs working for us. It was a nice change for me and Darrell to be able to got out and relax and put our ability of handling shotguns to the
test. Although I hate to admit it, but Darrell did out shoot me. As a matter of fact, he is making me call him "Dead-eye Darrell".
Thanks to John, Nate and the whole Hunt Nebraska Team. For more info on how to book a pheasant hunt (they also offer hunts for turkey
and deer) visit www.huntnebraskainc.com.
