THE MOST EXCITING TURKEY HUNT EVER!!

I just got back from the last turkey hunt of the year and it ended with a BANG!! I headed back to see Nate and John with Hunt Nebraska (www.huntnebraskainc.com) to finish up a turkey hunt that actually started in April. Just a reminder, that is when Darrell MISSED a Jake with his Mathews. Well, Darrell is back at work so I was on my own on this hunt. Nate picked us up from McCook airport and we were headed back to Arapahoe, Nebraska. The first day and half the weather was perfect and we seeing tons of birds, however, we just could not find the right bird in the right place at the right time. The second morning, I insisted that Nate start bringing his shotgun (Nate has not hunted in 3 years, because his first priority has always been his client), because I was the last hunter of the year and I wanted to increase our odds of getting a shot @ one of these big strutters. That morning Nate set us up in the perfect spot. We had at least 5 Toms almost land on top of our decoys.

With an overcast sky making things darker than normal, we had to wait a good 10 minutes just to get enough light for the cameras. During our waiting period we had quite a show. There were Toms strutting, drumming, fighting, running each other off, Nate and I were both chomping at the bits to pull the trigger. Finally, two big Toms ran off a third Tom (that about ran over us) and the two big Toms ended up about three stepps in front of us. I could not take it any longer. I asked Nate if he was ready, and when he said "YES" you would of thought a dozen mallards where making a low approach to a water hole we were set up on. Because we were so close, both of our first shots were misses, however, our second shots hit there mark and the pressure was off. I had my first Nebraska turkey and I can not ever remember being so pumped up about a turkey hunt. The combination of having to wait on the day to get lighter and to have so many turkey so close about killed me and Nate both. Darrell missed another great hunt with Hunt Nebraska (www.huntnebraskainc.com). I can't wait to tell him about it.

Thanks Nate, John, and Mary Ann. I am pumped up just from reliving the hunt while writing this story.
